A Reddit thread on 80s album covers made me rethink my whole thumbnail game
I was scrolling a r/vinyl post about the worst album covers of 1984, and someone pointed out that the most ridiculous ones all had one thing in common, no clear focal point. They said, "Your eye just wanders without a target, so the brain skips it." That hit different because I've been cramming everything into my thumbnails for months, but after counting my last 20 uploads, every one with a single bold subject did better, even with worse titles. Has anyone else tested stripping down thumbnails to one element and seen a jump like that?

The real trick is what you REMOVE, not what you add, because a single subject only works if the background doesn't fight it for attention. Strip the colors down to one flat tone and the eye has nowhere else to land.

Read in a photo mag that flat gray backdrops do exactly this.
