PSA: A neighbor called me out on my recycling bin last Tuesday

He saw me toss a greasy pizza box in with the paper and said, 'That's not recycling, it's just trash now.' I looked it up and he was right, so now I check the city website for every weird item. What's the one thing you thought was recyclable but actually isn't?

My buddy learned the hard way about those black plastic takeout containers. He was rinsing and stacking them for months. Turns out the recycling plant's optical sorters can't see black plastic, so it all just gets trashed anyway. He was pretty annoyed after all that effort.

That optical sorter thing is wild. I bet a ton of those little plastic sauce cups from takeout have the same problem.

Waste my time sorting those too. Makes you wonder what else we're recycling for nothing.
