That $200 air purifier I bought last winter was a complete dud for my apartment
I got this Ionic Breeze model off Amazon back in January because the air quality reports were scaring me. Figured spending the extra cash on a fancy unit would be worth it for my small one-bedroom in Denver. Three months in, my allergies were actually worse and the thing was covered in dust I had to scrub off the plates every week. Found out later those ionic purifiers just put out ozone and don't actually trap particles like a HEPA filter does. Bought a $80 Winix from Home Depot instead and my sinuses cleared up in a week. The worst part is the Ionic Breeze is just sitting in my closet now because I feel dumb trying to sell it to someone else. Has anyone else gotten burned by those trendy air purifier gimmicks?

Man those ionic purifiers are a total trap. My buddy bought one for his garage workshop and ended up smelling ozone every time he walked in there, plus his metal tools started getting this weird film on them. It sounds like you did the right thing swapping to a Winix, those filter based units are just plain simpler and work way better for normal people.

Right, the ozone smell is no joke. My neighbor had one of those things in his apartment and it made his whole place smell like a photocopier after a thunderstorm. The metal film thing is real too, I saw it on some of his electronics. Filter units are just WAY less hassle all around. No weird chemicals, no guessing, just pull out the old filter and slap in a new one.
