Heard a guy at the tool crib say 'don't trust dial indicators after a crash'

So I checked mine from a bad crash last Tuesday and it was off by 0.003. Anyone else ever catch a dial indicator lying to you after a hit?

Matches what I've seen with other tools after a hard hit.

Three thousandths is a pretty small error honestly. A lot of things can cause that besides a crash temperature changes or the indicator just not being seated perfectly in the holder. Unless you're doing precision work down to tenths I'd say check it again before tossing money at a new one.

Right? I had a brand new indicator do that once just from a temp swing in the shop.
