I was dead set against those digital torque wrenches for years

I told my buddy Dave at the hangar in Anchorage that I'd never trust a battery powered torque wrench after my old Snap-on analog one never let me down. Then I had to do a job on a 737 flap track and the old wrench just wouldnt get the right angle, so I borrowed his digital CDI and it saved my butt. Has anyone else had a tool they hated turn out to be a lifesaver on a specific job?

Warning: I've been rinsing my Chemex filters wrong for 2 years

So I was over at a friend's place last weekend and he made coffee with his Chemex. He rinsed the filter like normal but then he kept pouring hot water through it until the paper was totally soaked and the water ran clear. I always just gave it a quick splash and dumped it out. My coffee always had this weird papery taste that I just blamed on the beans. When I tried his method on my own brewer the next morning it was like a totally different drink. Cleaner, brighter, no off flavors at all. I feel pretty dumb for not realizing sooner honestly. Has anyone else dealt with that paper taste or was I just alone in this?

Was at Cosmic Comics in Austin last Saturday, and this dude spent 15 minutes telling a new reader why she was wrong for liking Tom King's Batman. I mean, she just said she thought it was a cool take on the character. The owner finally had to tell him to cool it or leave. Why do some fans act like gatekeepers instead of just letting people enjoy things?

Unpopular opinion: I think the old school way of cutting carpet with a knife is better than using a cutter

Honestly, for my first 5 years I used a hook blade knife for every cut, just like my trainer showed me. I switched to a power cutter about 2 years ago because everyone said it was faster and gave a cleaner edge. Ngl, I find I have less control on tricky angles, especially around a fireplace or a weird closet. I'm thinking of going back to the knife for detail work and just using the cutter for long, straight runs. Has anyone else tried both and stuck with the manual method for certain jobs?

Honestly, I was fixing up a 1950s Kodak Retina IIc last week and the shutter was dragging. Did some digging in an old repair manual I have, and it straight up said they used silk for its strength and light weight. I found a tiny tear near the edge, which explains the light leak on my test shots. It's wild to think they used fabric like that in a precision machine.
