Vent: A new guy at the shop said something about tool offsets that got me mad at first

He's fresh out of trade school and was setting up a job on our Haas VF2. He said, "I just zero everything from the part corner, it's faster." I was about to tell him he was wrong... but then he showed me his setup sheet. He had a system with his edge finder that saved him like 15 minutes per run. Made me realize I've been doing the long way for ten years just because that's how I was taught. Anyone have a trick for setting offsets that actually saves real time?

Honestly that kind of shortcut makes me nervous. Maybe it's faster for a simple block, but what about when you have multiple fixtures or weird stock? Seems like it could bite you later if you're not super careful. I've seen guys save five minutes on setup and then lose an hour fixing a crash. The long way might be slow, but it's predictable.

That "zero everything from the part corner" idea seemed lazy to me too, but seeing it work changed my whole view on setup speed.

Ever try a touch probe for offsets?
