My French press shattered this morning and I had to drink instant coffee instead

I was washing my 12 cup Bodum French press after breakfast and the glass cylinder just cracked right in my hands. Water went everywhere and I cut my finger on a piece of the broken carafe. Had to dig out a jar of Folgers crystals from the back of the pantry and make do with that sad cup. Has anyone else had a favorite brewing vessel break on them out of nowhere?

Oh man, that really stinks. Same thing happened to my old Chemex last year, I was just rinsing it out and the whole thing split in half. Instantly reminded me why I always keep a backup Aeropress in the cabinet, just in case. Hope your finger heals up quick.

Whoa wait @daniel_cooper34, it just split in HALF while you were rinsing it? That's wild, I've never heard of that happening with a Chemex before. I thought those things were built like tanks, mine has survived multiple drops somehow. Did the glass just fail like that out of nowhere or did you notice any tiny crack first? Hope you didn't slice your hand up worse than my friend did when his broke.
