Blew $180 on a comic press and board bundle at a con in Dallas, still haven't fixed the 4 spine ticks I bought it for
Bought it at the booth two years ago from a guy who swore it would flatten out my ASM 300. Pressed that book three times with his exact temp and time settings and the ticks are still there. Then a local guy in Plano told me the problem was the book had already been trimmed by a previous owner, so no press on earth was gonna fix it. I paid to press a comic that was never going to be a 9.0 anyway. Anyone else get burned on pressing gear before you learned to check for trimming first?
A guy at my LCS showed me a trimmed book under a blacklight last year, the cover stock glows way different where they cut it. Pressing can fix bends and dents from normal handling, but it can't add paper back to a spine that got shaved. Sorry man, that Plano guy was right, that book was cooked before you ever bought it.
