Ngl a guy at my local shop told me 'don't pay more than $40 for a key issue' and it saved me $260
Honestly I almost ignored him because he was some random dude flipping through dollar bins at Heroes in Charlotte back in March. He said key issues get hyped way past what they're worth and to check sold prices on eBay before paying any markup. Last month I saw a copy of a minor first appearance priced at $300 with a sticker that said 'hot'. I pulled up the last 5 sold listings on my phone and they were all between $38 and $52 with shipping. I walked out, waited 3 weeks, and got a cleaner copy at a different shop for $40 flat. That's a $260 difference for basically the same book in better shape. Has anyone else had a random collector give them advice that actually panned out?
