That dive supervisor in Galveston told me to tape my gloves before every dive and I thought he was being anal, 6 weeks later my hands are the only thing that didn't get chewed up on a rusty wreck

He said 'tape costs 50 cents, a shredded hand costs a week of work' and after I ignored him for 3 months, I finally tried it on a job off Freeport and now I won't even do a harbor hull scrub without it, anyone else have a safety habit they resisted until it saved them once?

Dang, that tape trick is wild but it makes total sense. I read somewhere that the breakdown on glove material is way faster when it rubs against rust and metal, but the tape adds that extra layer that takes the hit instead of your skin. I was the same way about wearing a mouth guard on a job, thought it was overkill until I took a stray line to the face and almost lost two teeth. Now I won't even do a simple check without it, lol.

Wait, is that the same reason why my work boots die way faster on the left foot than the right? I always blamed my braking foot in the truck, but now I'm wondering if it's just the way I lean when I'm hauling stuff. Anyway, that mouth guard thing reminds me, I used to think ear plugs were for wimps until I spent a summer running a chipper without them. By August I was telling my wife "what?" every time she talked to me and she thought I was ignoring her on purpose. Now I've got three pairs stashed in every vehicle I own, plus one in the kitchen drawer for some reason.
