That week in the Gulf where everything went sideways on day 2
We were doing pipeline inspection off Galveston, 7 days straight, and on Tuesday the current ripped so hard my umbilical wrapped around a riser. Took me 45 minutes to untangle with a knife, and my comms were so garbled the surface thought I was calling in a shark bite. The next day the compressor died on the boat, so we sat for 14 hours doing nothing but watching the horizon. Anyone else have a job where the weather was perfect but the gear just refused to cooperate?

Watching that horizon for 14 hours sounds like its own kind of hell, but at least it was calm. Got stuck on a dive once where the boat's winch just gave up in perfect flat water, so we bobbed around for hours while the crew tried to fix it with zip ties and duct tape. Gear always picks the worst possible moment to quit.
