Blew out a power supply twice before a retired tech explained my outlet was wired wrong

He pointed out the neutral and hot were swapped on that circuit and suddenly those random shutdowns over the last 2 years made sense, has anyone else had to call an electrician after chasing a computer issue?

Wow @emma_garcia, I had a buddy ruin three hard drives before his wife's uncle fixed their ground loop problem!

oh man that is such a frustrating way to learn something the hard way. i had a similar thing happen where my computer would just randomly restart whenever i turned on a space heater in the same room. it drove me crazy for months, swapped out ram and the psu twice before my brother in law who is an electrician told me the circuit was overloaded since the heater was sharing a breaker with my whole desk setup. it's crazy how many seemingly random computer issues are actually just bad wiring or power problems in the house. makes you feel dumb but really it's just one of those things nobody thinks to check.

My buddy fried two graphics cards before finding the same issue.
