Showerthought: Lost a whole night rebuilding a RAID array that I could have saved by just swapping the SATA cable first
Spent 6 hours rebuilding a degraded array on a client's NAS in Tacoma before I checked the cheap stuff, and the cable was frayed the whole time. Chased the fancy fix before the basic one, and it cost me a full night shift's sleep. Anyone else got a rule for when to stop troubleshooting software and go straight to the hardware?
