I got into a heated argument about the moon landing at a family barbecue in Toledo

My uncle started quoting a documentary he saw online, so I pulled up the NASA photo archive on my phone right there. Has anyone else had to fact-check a relative in real time?

My cousin tried to convince everyone at a picnic that the Great Wall of China is visible from space. I had to show him the NASA page where they say it's mostly a myth... from my phone while holding a paper plate of potato salad. The look on his face when he saw the official statement was something else. He just mumbled about maybe mixing it up with something else and went to get another burger.

Oh man, @emma455, that's the perfect kind of fact check. It's so satisfying to shut down those stubborn myths with actual proof, especially in a casual setting. I had a friend who swore you could see the pyramids from space too, and it was the same deal, pulling up satellite images on the spot. There's just something about that quiet defeat, the burger retreat, that makes it all worth it. It's like a public service, but with potato salad.

Read somewhere that astronauts say even city lights at night are barely visible from orbit.
