Why does nobody talk about how easy it is to fall for the "watch this clip" trick
Six months ago a friend sent me a 4 minute video that supposedly caught a Pentagon official slipping up about a program that doesn't exist. I watched it twice and was ready to believe it, then noticed the audio cut at 2:18 right before the words that made the whole thing work. I started checking the source clip IDs on YouTube after that and found 3 of the 5 videos in a "leaked" compilation were edited the same way. Has anyone else caught a cut like that, and did it change how you watch these things?

Man, this hits home HARD. The part about watching it twice before catching the cut is the scary bit, because your brain fills in the missing words on the first pass and you don't even notice. That trick works because the cut happens right where the sentence is carrying all the weight, so you remember the punchline even though it was never actually said. What really gets me is how fast these clips spread compared to how slow the corrections move, by the time someone posts the full source the original has hit a million views. Your YouTube ID trick is smart, but most people won't do that kind of homework, so the real fix has to be platforms flagging trimmed audio or linking the full clip right there. I've started watching anything under five minutes with the assumption that something was left on the cutting room floor, and honestly that one habit has saved me from getting fooled more than once.
