A client's 12 year old taught me more about aging hair than my $2000 training class
Last Saturday, I was doing a gloss treatment on a regular client, and her daughter was waiting in the chair next to us scrolling on her phone. She looked up and said "why do grown women all want the same flat color? My friends' moms all have that boring brown with no dimension." I laughed it off at first, but then I looked at my work. She was right. I've been doing the same base + toner combo for years because it's what the class in Chicago taught me. That kid had never touched a brush in her life and she nailed the exact problem with my color service. Now I'm testing out more lived-in looks with brighter face-framing pieces. Has anyone else had a totally green client point out something that made you switch up your whole approach?

Kids see stuff we train ourselves to ignore, plain and simple. A teenager at my station once asked why I kept painting over everyone's natural tones, and it took me a full month to admit she was right about my whole formula.
