Picked between a hooded dryer and a steamer for my little salon, and I'm second guessing it
I run a two chair salon out of a rented space near downtown Boise and had about $600 set aside for one new piece of equipment this spring. It came down to a hooded dryer or a standing steamer, and I went with the steamer because I do a lot of color and deep conditioning treatments and I figured it would pay for itself faster. Three clients in, I'm realizing the steamer takes up a ton of floor space in a room that's already tight, and I have to move my cart every single time I use it, which is getting old fast. The hooded dryer would have let me set a client and walk away to mix more color or take a call, and right now the steamer keeps me standing there the whole time holding the hose. The treatments do come out nice, I'll give it that, and two clients already asked what I was using. But I keep thinking about how my old dryer finally died in March and I never replaced it, and now I've got people asking for roller sets I can't really do well. Anyone else pick the fancier tool over the boring workhorse and regret it? Or did the steamer end up being worth it once you got used to it?
Well look at you, the proud owner of a $600 hose holder that you have to stand next to like you're watering the lawn. The steamer sounds great for the clients but your feet and your roller set ladies are the ones paying the price.
