TIL I was holding my shears wrong for 2 years and a client's cowlick finally showed me
I was cutting a guy's hair at my chair in Sacramento last week and he had this cowlick at the crown that kept sticking up no matter how many times I went over it, and he finally said 'my last stylist did something different there.' I watched a video that night and saw I'd been pointing my shears blade-down instead of sliding at an angle, which was crushing the ends instead of slicing them, and I felt so dumb. How do you all handle a client pointing out something another stylist did, do you ask them to show you or just nod and fix it?
My client in Reno said the same thing about her bangs last month and I just nodded and fixed it, then went home and practiced on my mannequin for like 2 hours. Honestly asking them to show you the angle is smart though, they usually remember more than you'd think. Two years is nothing, I did the crushing thing for way longer before anyone told me.
