A simple trick I learned for checking crane level on uneven ground

For years, I'd just eyeball the bubble on the crane's level and maybe throw a board under a pad if it looked bad. Then, about two months ago on a tight site in Tacoma, my spotter, Greg, showed me his method. He uses a small, cheap laser level from a hardware store to shoot a line across the machine's frame to a marked spot on the opposite outrigger. If the laser hits the mark, you're golden. It takes maybe 30 seconds and gives me way more confidence than squinting at that little bubble. Anyone else use a trick like this, or have a different go-to for a quick level check?

Oh man, that's smart. My buddy's old foreman used a water level, just a clear hose, to check across the pads. Said it never lied, even on a slope.

Honestly, that hose trick is pure old-school genius.

My cousin's contractor used that trick to level a deck.
