Finally got the hang of spotting my own load with the new camera system
I had to choose between trusting the old ground guy's hand signals or relying on the new cab-mounted monitor. I went with the monitor and placed a 15-ton beam within an inch of the mark. Anyone else switch to camera spotting and have tips for windy days?

Heck yeah! I just crank the zoom for wind.

Honestly though, does that ever mess with your focus breathing? I tried that once on a long lens and the whole focus plane shifted when I zoomed. Had to recalibrate for every shot. It works in a pinch but it feels like a band-aid fix. I'd rather just swap out the filter if I have the time.

Remember that zooming doesn't actually cut wind noise, it just makes the source sound closer. You're still recording all that rumble, it's just louder now. A good windscreen is the only real fix for that.

Oh man, I read that's a total myth!
