Pro tip: An old timer told me to grease the pendant cable and I thought he was joking

I've been running a Link-Belt for about 8 years now and always fought stiff pendant cables in cold weather. Last winter a retiree named Dave watched me struggle and said to rub a thin layer of grease on them before the first lift of the day. I figured he was pulling my leg but tried it on a -10 degree morning and the difference was night and day. The cable stopped binding up in the sheaves and I saved a good 20 minutes of downtime. Anyone else ever get advice that sounds too simple but actually works?

So much of fixing stuff is just trying random simple stuff first lol.

@wright.leo That's not really random though, Dave knew exactly what he was doing.

Dave was a retiree, not just some random guy, so he probably had 40 years of tricks up his sleeve. Calling it random kinda undersells the old timer wisdom lol.
