Switched from hand signals to radios after a near miss in Portland
Used to rely on hand signals with my spotter for years, but last spring we had a miscommunication on a tight pick near a freeway overpass and the load swung way too close to traffic. Now I use two-way radios with earpieces on every job site over 10 stories. Anyone else made the switch after a close call?

Quinnm77 mentioned the earpieces slipping, and that's a real pain. I had a pair that kept falling out too, but I found the ones with the over-the-ear clips hold way better even when I'm sweating. Spencer_gonzalez1 is right about wind being a problem - that's actually what pushed me to try a different style. Do you find that the radios themselves with the voice activation work better than the push-to-talk buttons in those conditions? I've heard mixed things about the VOX setting on cheaper models.

Honestly I used to think earpieces were overkill but you changed my mind on that lol.

Earpieces make a huge difference on windy days, good call.

Do you find they stay put better than the ones with the thinner plastic hooks? I had a pair that always slipped off when I started sweating.
