Overheard at a coffee shop: 'What if my main character is just allergic to the plot?'

Guy at the next table was pitching his novel to a friend and said that line. I laughed out loud and spilled my latte. Now I'm wondering if that's actually a cool hook for a fantasy story where the hero can't get near the magical MacGuffin.

Five cups of coffee deep and I gotta ask - is the allergy like a magical intolerance that makes him break out in hives near the plot, or more like his sinuses clog up around anything interesting?

The allergy is his body physically rejecting lazy writing, not some sinus thing.
