Signing up for a 'life coaching' pyramid scheme was a wild ride

I had to pick between joining my neighbor's 'business mentorship' group or sticking with my boring book club. I went to one meeting and they wanted $300 for a starter kit and told me to recruit my grandma. Has anyone else accidentally sat through something that felt way too close to a cult meeting?

Rolled my eyes so hard they almost got stuck when my cousin tried to sell me his "financial freedom accelerator" package. He used words like "abundance mindset" and "hustle culture" while showing me a picture of his rental Tesla. The starter kit was $500 and it came with a motivational poster that said "Your Grind Never Stops." I asked if I could just borrow a book from the library about investing and he looked at me like I had three heads. Honestly felt like I was in a bad improv scene where everyone was speaking in cheesy corporate slogans.

I actually don't hate the hustle mindset, some people really do need that kick to start investing.

Your Grind Never Stops" sounds like it belongs on a cheap motivational meme from 2012. Last week a buddy tried to get me into his "passive income funnel" and I just asked him if he'd ever actually turned a profit yet, he got real quiet.

Did @the_claire ever actually sit through one of those things or just see them from the outside? Because there's a difference between liking the idea of hustle culture and having someone stare at you with dead eyes while they explain how your "network is your net worth" for the fifth time. What gets me is how they all follow the same script, like there's a handbook titled "How to Make Your Aunt Uncomfortable at Christmas Dinner." I swear, the moment someone mentions "abundance mindset" in a coffee shop, I'm out the door before they can pitch me on their premium tier.
