Hit 10,000 steps for 3 months straight, but my resting heart rate got worse
My fitness tracker kept patting me on the back for averaging 10,400 steps daily since July. Felt great about it until my annual checkup last week in Portland showed my resting heart rate went UP from 62 to 71. Doctor asked about sleep and stress, I said both are fine. Then she asked if I was overtraining and I laughed, 10k steps is nothing, right? But she pulled up some study data showing how steady state cardio without recovery days can backfire. I never factored in that my step count includes a lot of pacing at work, not actual training. Have any of you seen your step goals fight against other health numbers like this?
Track your actual workouts separate from your daily steps. I did the same thing, hitting 12k days but most of it was walking around the office and parking lots. Body never got real rest because it was always moving. Started logging only dedicated walks and runs, cut back to 4 days a week, and my resting HR dropped 8 points in 6 weeks. Those little steps add up to stress even if they feel like nothing.
