Hot take: that "93% of people never read past the headline" stat is made up, and I lost 2 days proving it
I chased that number down through 14 sites and every one just linked back to the same dead blog post from 2014 with no data behind it. Has anyone found an actual study on this, or is it just one of those stats we all repeat because it sounds right?
Spent an afternoon on that same rabbit hole once, so at least we wasted our time together. Best I ever found was a Columbia study about shares vs clicks, which is a different thing and nowhere near 93. Pretty sure the number just got passed around because it makes people feel smart for reading one more line than everyone else.
