The Census occupation code that ate my Tuesday afternoon
I was digging into the 2022 American Community Survey microdata, trying to match job titles between the Census and BLS. Turns out the Census has over 500 occupation codes, and my 'data analyst' group splits into 3 separate ones depending on industry. It took me 6 hours to map them all correctly, and I still doubt my crosswalk. Has anyone else spent a full day on a coding schema that looked simple at first glance, or do you have a better method for linking these datasets?
