The viral thrift flip article that failed basic math by $300
So I saw this piece yesterday about a guy making $8k a month reselling thrift store clothes. The article went viral, tons of likes. But I ran the numbers from his own screenshot and the profit margin did not add up. He claimed he bought 50 items for $120 total and sold them for $900, but his own listing showed one item alone going for $85. That leaves maybe 20 items max for the rest. The math just collapses. I used to just read these hustle stories and feel bad about myself, but after getting burned by a fake course last spring, I always pull up a calculator now. It took me about 10 minutes to spot the error. Has anyone else caught a viral money article that straight up lies about the numbers? Maybe we should start a weekly thread for these bad-math busts.
