I figured it was just TikTok fluff so I pulled $400 in cash each check and stuffed envelopes for rent, gas, and food. Ended up saving $1,150 in 3 months, mostly because handing over real bills for takeout hurts way more than tapping a card. Curious if anyone else tried it and whether the magic fades once you go back to plastic.
Did you keep the envelopes separate from your wallet or did you carry them around? I did something close to this last year but I left the gas and food cash at home so I couldn't cheat on lunch breaks. The thing that helped most was a boring one, I wrote the balance on the outside of each envelope every Sunday so I could see it dropping in real time. Plastic killed it for me though, once I started tapping again the food envelope lasted like 6 days instead of 2 weeks, so now I pull cash out the same day I get paid and that's the only money I let myself touch.
