I finally hit 30 breakdown requests in the community queue, and the one that did it was about rain gutter math
I started posting deep dive requests here about 4 months ago just to get smarter about stuff I did not understand, and yesterday the mods told me my request about gutter slope calculations was the 30th one I had sent in. That number surprised me because I honestly thought I was closer to 12 or 15. It mattered to me because when I sent that first request about attic venting back in March, I got 3 replies and one of them was basically 'read the manual.' The gutter one got 41 replies and a guy from Portland even drew out the math for how water moves on a 6 inch run. I have learned more from this place than from 2 years of scrolling videos, and the weird part is the small requests do better than the big ones. Asking about one tiny thing like downspout spacing pulls in people who actually do that work every day. So what topic have you been sitting on that you keep meaning to ask about but never do?
Was there a point where you almost gave up on the whole thing, like after that "read the manual" reply in March? Getting told to just go look it up when you asked a real question would have made me stop sending requests for a while. What kept you going back after that one?
