Rented an e-mountain bike over a gravel bike for a Moab trip, here's the fallout

I had to pick between a $90 a day e-bike and a $60 gravel bike for the slickrock trails. Went with the e-bike since my knees are shot, and honestly it crushed the climbs but the extra weight made the descents sketchy as hell. The battery died at mile 14 and I was pushing it up a sand wash near Poison Spider. Has anyone else regretted the motor assist on technical stuff, or do I just need to learn to feather the throttle better?

Did you have the e-bike in turbo mode the whole time, or just eco? That battery dying at 14 miles sounds more like a low setting issue than a motor problem.
