Noticed a deepfake of my old neighbor from 3 years ago

Last week I found a video of my old neighbor Tom from 2021. He moved away but this video showed him saying stuff he never would. The mouth movements were off by a split second. I traced it back to some random TikTok account. Has anyone else spotted fakes of people they actually know?

This kinda reminds me @troychen of when my cousin found a fake profile using his dead grandpa's old Facebook photos. Some weirdo was posting as him and talking about conspiracy theories. We had to go through this whole annoying process with Facebook support to prove the guy passed away years ago. Took like two weeks and a ton of screenshots from old family photos to get it taken down. What platform did you find the video on anyway?

Yeah @troychen it really is a different feeling when you know the person. What I'd do is screenshot the TikTok and report it for impersonation, but also check if the account has other weird videos like that. If it's just the one, sometimes it's a bot that scraped old photos or videos from public social media. I had a buddy who found a deepfake of himself and we got it taken down by sending the platform the real timestamps and evidence showing he didn't record anything that day. Just worth keeping a close eye on your own privacy settings too, since these things tend to pop up in clusters.

Damn, that's unsettling to actually know the person in the fake.
