The thing most people miss in lip sync deepfakes is the teeth

Honestly, I was watching a viral video of a politician speaking last week and something felt off. Everyone in the comments was arguing about lighting and skin texture, but I zoomed in on the mouth area. The teeth in deepfakes always look kind of blurry or have weird gaps between them. Real people have slightly uneven teeth that catch light differently. I noticed this because I watch a lot of dash cam footage on my rig and you can see real teeth reflections in bad lighting. The fakes just don't get that right yet. Have any of you spotted a tell like that before that most people overlook?

Yo, the teeth thing is spot on. I saw a deepfake of a famous singer and the front teeth were all perfectly straight and white like uncanny valley status. Real people have tiny chips or slight yellowing near the gums.

Oh geez, the teeth thing always gets me! I remember my cousin’s wedding photos where the photographer edited everyone’s teeth to be blindingly white and it looked so fake, like we were all wearing those cheap Halloween vampire teeth or something. And then my aunt’s glasses had weird reflections that made her look like a cyborg, haha. It’s crazy how those little imperfections you don’t even notice in real life become glaring when they’re gone. You’re totally right that deepfakes miss all those tiny real-world details that make a face look alive.

Read an article saying the teeth thing is called "dental distortion" in deepfake detection.
