Just realized I've been painting my stucco wrong for years
I was out in my backyard last month in Tucson and noticed this weird blotchy pattern on my wall that I'd painted about 6 months ago. My neighbor came over to borrow my ladder and he asked why I didn't use elastomeric paint for desert stucco. I thought any exterior paint would work but apparently the sun just eats regular paint here and it goes all patchy within a year. Has anyone else dealt with this or found a brand that holds up better in the triple digit heat?

Drywall primer under stucco paint helps a ton too.

That thing about drywall primer got me thinking. I once used garage floor paint on my patio wall by accident because I grabbed the wrong can from the shed. Definitely blotchy but it actually held up okay for like 2 years before I had to redo it. Ever try anything weird that somehow worked by mistake?
