Talked to a plasterer in Tucson and he totally changed how I see stucco patching

I was out on a job last Thursday near Tanque Verde and this old school plasterer was fixing a wall near my fence line. He told me I was using too much water in my mix, that it makes the patch crack way faster in the dry heat here. Just tried his trick of letting the mix sit for 5 minutes before applying, and my test patch actually looks solid for once. Anyone else get a random tip from a tradesperson that worked better than any YouTube video?

Ngl that water trick is gold. Had a mason tell me the same thing about concrete mix last summer and it fixed all my crumbling issues. YouTube never mentions the little stuff like that.

Exactly @felixm29, because why would the pros share their secrets when they can watch us mess it up for a decade first? Youtube tutorials are like a free sample - they give you just enough to be dangerous but not enough to actually fix anything. That mason probably laughed his way home after watching you pour water on concrete like a crazy person. Now you're just one mysterious hand gesture away from becoming a concrete whisperer yourself. Watch out, next thing you know you'll be charging people $50 for "the good advice.
