Watched a guy spend 90 minutes trying to start a Cummins with a bad lift pump

I was at a truck stop outside Flagstaff last Tuesday and instead of checking the fuel pressure first, he swapped the starter, alternator, and batteries before finally asking me for help, so has anyone else seen people skip the basic tests and burn a whole day on parts that were fine?

@wesleyflores nailed it, guys ignore the fuel system until it's too late.

...and the real kicker is nobody ever talks about how the lift pump failure could've been avoided in the first place. Bad fuel or letting it run too low too often, that's what kills them. That guy probably ignored the warning signs for weeks.

Agree with @wesleyflores on this one, tbh. People run these things on fumes all the time and then act shocked when the pump eats itself. That low fuel level lets in air and dirt from the bottom of the tank, and before you know it you're shelling out for a whole new fuel system.
