A gallery owner in Austin told me my piece looked like a screensaver, so I reinvented my whole color palette

She said the oranges were too clean and it felt like Windows XP, so I started mixing mud tones into everything and now my desert pieces actually sell, has anyone else gotten a brutal critique that accidentally unlocked their style?
