Dropped $200 on a local SIM card bundle in Lisbon and it was a total game changer...
My friend says it's a waste and you should just hunt for free WiFi everywhere. What's your move for staying connected abroad?

Honestly depends on the trip. For a weekend city break, free wifi at cafes and hotels is fine. But trying to use maps or find a train schedule on a patchy connection is a nightmare. That local data lets you actually wander without getting lost. It’s about buying time and less stress, not just internet access.

Exactly, it's about buying time and less stress. I tried to rely on cafe wifi in Lisbon last year and spent half an hour walking in circles looking for a signal just to see a tram map. Got a local SIM the next day and it was like a weight lifted.

But that stress is part of the fun, getting lost is how you find the real city.
