Lost $400 on a "coworking space" that was just a garage

Booked a coworking space in Medellin for a month through a Facebook group. Showed up and it was a dude's garage with a folding table and one extension cord. Anyone else get burned by these fake spaces down there?

Did you check the place out before sending the money? I heard some horror stories from a buddy who went down there last year. Said half those Facebook listings are just scams or guys renting out their spare room. You gotta use something like Google Maps or even a quick video call first. Sucks you got burned like that though. Hope you left a bad review in that Facebook group so others know.

Maybe it's just me but a video call still doesn't prove the place is real since they could just be showing you a hotel room. I've seen people make a huge deal over a couple hundred bucks when the whole process was sketchy from the start. Feels like half the risk is just people being too trusting of random internet strangers.

Wow, a garage with a folding table and one extension cord for $400? That is brutal. @charlies37 is right though, even a video call can be faked if they want to scam you bad enough. Did you at least get to kick the guy's dog or something?
