Spent $80 on a 'portable office' chair for the beach - biggest mistake of my trip
Was in Playa del Carmen last month and thought I was being smart buying this inflatable chair with a backrest from a local shop. Got it set up on the sand outside my coliving spot, laptop out ready to work, and a wave came up and soaked everything in about 2 minutes flat. Laptop survived but the chair deflated and I spent the rest of the afternoon drying stuff out. Anyone else fall for gear that sounds cool but just doesn't work near water?

Did you set it up right where the waves could reach it?

I bought the exact same style at a Walmart in Pensacola for $35 last summer and it worked fine for three straight weeks on the beach. I think the difference is you set up right at the water line where the tide comes in. I always go at least 20 yards back from the high tide mark and dig a little trench around my chair base so water drains away. Also those inflatable ones need to be fully dry before you pack them or they get sticky and fall apart. Maybe give it another try but pick a better spot next time.

Dig a little trench around my chair base" is one of those simple tips that fixes half of life's problems if people would just pay attention, @richard_young80.
