My lawyer in Phoenix said to fight for the house, but I walked away.
I was at the courthouse last Tuesday for a hearing and saw three other people doing the same thing, just handing over the keys. My ex wanted to keep it but couldn't afford it alone, and dragging it out felt like paying for a past I didn't want. When did giving up the house stop being seen as losing?

Last Tuesday at the courthouse I counted five sets of keys on that clerk's desk. My lawyer gave me the same fight for it speech, but peace of mind doesn't have a price tag. phoenix_martin40 is right about that uncashed check, it's like you're buying your own freedom from the stress. I called it the idiot tax I decided not to pay this year. Letting go of the house just meant I could finally let go of all the other stuff, too.

Five keys, @olivert78? Was the clerk running a lost and found?
