My lawyer told me to stop writing novels in my journal entries.
She said the judge might see them if things get ugly, so now I just write bullet points instead of paragraphs. Anyone else have a lawyer give you communication advice that actually helped?

Read somewhere that a divorce lawyer told a guy to write everything like he's tweeting to his mom. Short sentences, no emotion, just facts. Made me think twice about how I type up stuff in group chats too. My buddy's lawyer told him to stop putting feelings in emails because they can be subpoenaed, now he just says "noted" and "received" like a robot.

Writing without a little personality makes everything feel like a police report though.

Got a buddy who works in HR and he told me once that someone's angry email about a parking spot got read out loud in court during a harassment case. The guy wrote "I hope you choke on your stupid coffee" and they used it to show hostile work environment. So now my buddy writes everything like he's narrating a nature documentary. "The employee proceeds to the designated parking area. They exit their vehicle. Conflict does not occur." Makes me laugh every time but I get why he does it. All it takes is one spicy sentence to come back and bite you in the ass.
