Showerthought: My bathroom floor tile job almost ended with a trip to urgent care

I was in my upstairs bathroom last Tuesday, trying to cut the last few 12 inch tiles to fit around the toilet flange. My cheap tile saw from the big box store started making a weird noise, and before I knew it, it kicked a shard right into my safety glasses. I had to stop everything, clean up the wet dust mess, and drive 20 minutes to get a better blade. Has anyone found a decent tile saw for under $200 that doesn't try to blind you?

My cheap saw shot a tile chip into my forehead, so I feel your pain.

My brother-in-law had a similar scare with a chipped blade on his miter saw. He ended up duct-taping a piece of plexiglass to the frame as a shield. Sometimes the cheap fix is the only one that works.

Honestly that plexiglass shield idea is pretty smart for a quick safety fix. I've seen guys use old plastic binder covers or even cut up milk jugs for the same thing. Tbh it's way better than nothing when you're in the middle of a job and can't run to the store. Just make sure whatever you use is thick enough to actually stop a chip.
