Check your cutterhead bearing temps next time you're running heavy clay

Real bearings should be warm but not hot to the touch, like 140-160F is usually fine depending on the machine. If you can't keep your hand on the housing for more than a second or two, that's trouble brewing for sure. Overheated cutters from heavy clay cause more downtime than people realize.

@alice928 Reminds me of the time a pottery kiln threw a bearing on a firing just before Christmas.

Start with the bearing temp thing. I've run machines where 140-160F was already a warning sign, not a sweet spot, depending on the load and grease type. Moisture and dust from clay work can mess with temps way faster than most people account for, so that hand test might be too late already.
