Saw a crew in Tampa still using the wrong mud for the first coat

They were using the green lid stuff for the initial fill on a big ceiling job. I watched them fight it for two days because it sets too fast and shrinks. I switched to the blue bucket mud for fills years ago after a similar mess on a house in Clearwater. It's slower, but you get way less cracking and callbacks. Anyone else notice this or have a different fix?

Made that exact mistake on my own kitchen ceiling, looked like a dried-up riverbed after a week. Switched to the blue bucket for all first coats and it's a night and day difference on shrinkage. The extra dry time is worth not having to go back and fix a bunch of hairline cracks.

That shrinkage thing happens everywhere when you skip steps to save time. People rush the base layer on a project, then waste triple the hours fixing the mess later. It's the same with cheap caulk or thin primer, always cracks and fails. Taking the slow road up front saves so much headache down the line.

Read about that in a DIY book?
