The $70 fake USB-C cable that nearly fried my laptop
Bought a 10 foot cable off Amazon for $70 because I needed a long one for my desk setup in Chicago. Charged my laptop for one night and next morning the port was hot enough to smell burning plastic. Has anyone else gotten burned by knockoff chargers that look too legit?
A 10 foot cable for $70 sounds like a bad deal even if it worked, honestly. @amyh12 your Best Buy charger story doesn't surprise me, it seems like every brand is cutting corners now and quality control has gone out the window. People don't realize a cheap cable can short out your whole laptop in seconds, and suddenly that $70 doesn't sound so bad compared to a fried motherboard.
Fried my air fryer with a knockoff cord last month, now I'm scared to plug anything into any wall socket in my apartment. Thought I was getting a deal but my laptop almost turned into a pancake. At least now I know the smell of burning plastic means "turn off the charger, stupid.
