Had a talk with a new esthetician that made me rethink my scrub routine
I was chatting with this girl who just graduated from esthetics school in Austin, and she told me she never uses physical scrubs on clients anymore. She said her instructor drilled into them that enzyme exfoliation is way gentler and gives better results long term. It hit me because I've been using the same scrub for like 8 years and never questioned it, but now I'm trying out a lactic acid peel on myself this week. Has anyone else switched from scrubs to enzymes and seen a difference?

I dunno, I still get great results from my gentle scrub.

@the_holly did you always use gentle scrubs, or did you switch from something harsher? I used to think you needed something rough to really clean your face, but after hearing people like you say gentle works, I gave it a shot. Now my skin is way less red and irritated. I think a lot of people just assume scrubbing harder equals cleaner, but it's not really the case.

@emmamason you said "gentle works" and I get why people think that, but I've been using a medium grit scrub for years and my skin is actually better for it. Not everyone's skin reacts the same way. Some people need a little more exfoliation to keep pores clear, and enzyme stuff can leave me with a weird film that breaks me out. I tried switching to a lactic acid peel like you mentioned and it gave me red patches for a week. If a scrub works for someone and they're not abusing it, why fix what isn't broken?
