I thought those LED light masks were just a TikTok fad, but a client in Austin swore by hers for acne. After 3 months of using one myself, my skin is actually clearer.

My dermatologist in Chicago said those masks can't match prescription treatments for real acne. She pointed out most studies on LED for skin are small and funded by the companies selling the devices. You might see a small change, but it's probably not fixing the root cause like hormones or bacteria. I'd save the money for a real doctor's visit instead.

Look at it this way, not everyone needs a prescription. For some of us it's just a few spots and the mask is a cheap thing to try at home. Sure, it might not be a magic fix, but calling it a total waste feels a bit extreme. Sometimes a small change is all someone is looking for, not a full medical plan.

My sister bought one of those masks last year and swore it helped. But hearing about the small studies makes me see it differently now.
