A guy at the coffee shop told me he still uses a flip phone
This was in Austin, about two months ago. He said he got tired of being tracked and just wanted a phone that made calls. It made me think about the whole 'digital detox' push. Is going back to basic tech a real shift, or just a thing for a few people? Anyone else know someone who ditched their smartphone for good?

My buddy's cousin did that last year, got a dumb phone after his screen time was like eight hours a day. He says he reads way more books now, but misses maps the most.

Totally get that. My sister switched to a flip phone for a whole month. She said the quiet was amazing but she gave up because she couldn't handle not having a camera in her pocket. The maps thing is real though, you don't realize how much you rely on it until it's gone.

Flip phones feel like a weird flex more than a real change. It's a nice idea but most people just can't stick with it, like patel.christopher's sister showed. Missing maps and a camera is a huge deal in real life. This seems like a small group making a point, not some big shift back to the past.
