I dropped $200 on a 'smart' water bottle that tracks your sips

It was the big thing a few months ago, this bottle that syncs with an app to tell you when to drink. I thought it would help me stay on track, but the app kept crashing and the battery died after two days. After a week, I was just using it like a normal bottle, and now it sits in my cabinet. The tech felt more like a hassle than a real help. Has anyone else tried these and found them useful, or are they just a pricey fad?

I had the same problem with the push notifications. My fix was to just set two alarms on my phone, one for mid-morning and one for mid-afternoon. When the alarm goes off, I fill up my plain glass from the tap and drink the whole thing. It's free, it never crashes, and I don't have to worry about another battery to charge. The simple way just stuck for me.

That's the move right there. Tech always finds a way to overcomplicate drinking water.

Man, what a waste. Did you ever get those push notifications telling you to drink water while you were already holding a glass? Mine did that. The whole point was to make things easier, not to have another gadget that needs charging and updating. I gave up and went back to my old Nalgene. It holds water and doesn't need a software patch.
